Voice requires four components to be working harmoniously together and while we might not have a voice like Adele, Freddie Mercury or Elvis Presley good chances we will experience a croaky voice, hoarseness even complete loss of our voice at various times.
Diagnosis of voice problems can be difficult as they can be the side effects of another medical condition, viral infection, over use, medication or growths on the vocal cords such as cysts, tumours or papillomas.
An extensive and thorough examination of the nose, larynx and vocal cords by an ENT specialist (otolaryngologist) is necessary to determine any underlying problems. Voice problems is area where a multidisciplinary approach might be needed to achieve the best outcome. However, that should be determined after an ENT examination and all other medical conditions considered.
